Philippine Business Trip 2024

February is going really past. It's been overwhelmingly busy at work the past few weeks as we rush to finish our new products. And as part of this exercise, management decided to hold a 2-week sprint and workshop in the Philippines where our team will all huddle in the office and in the same hotel for 2 weeks to try to complete as much as we can. It was a great time to see the guys again and finally work together in one room for days.

There was only 1 week notice, so I could only commit 1 week for the trip (12-18Feb), as I needed to get back to Sydney for my immunotherapy. Adding to that, I was meant to finally receive my long-awaited Tesla on the 16th of Feb. Unfortunately, I had to extend my trip so I ended up going home to Sydney on the 23rd.

Feb 12, Monday

  • Flew in on the 12pm Qantas Sydney to Manila flight
  • While at the airport, Qantas sent a message saying (1) flight is delayed by at least an hour, and (2) the entertainment system iPads are not working, we passengers have to use our own devices and earphones.
  • Plenty of time at the airport to I managed to finish 9000 steps walking around
  • Bought myself a nice JBL wireless earphones as well for the trip
  • At the plane, they had wifi internet available on the flight while the plane was over Australia (the first 4 hours of the trip). So I spent the first half of the trip chatting with Lani and the kids
  • Arrived in PH at around 7:30pm local time
  • Was picked up by ka Narsing, ka Bang, ka Cristie and ka Dario.
  • Dinner at Chowking before heading to the accommodation in Makati
  • Arrived at Makati at around 10pm. JB and Aldrin were at the lobby so I invited them to walk with me so I can finish my 12,500 steps for the day.
Feb 13, Tuesday - Feb 16, Friday
  • Work, work, work at the office
  • Came back to hotel past 6pm daily then long walks around Ayala, Glorietta and Greenbelt to reach my 12.5k daily step goals
Feb 16, Saturday
  • Trip to QC to visit Lani's mom and family. I remember now what I hate about Manila - the traffic. Took 1.5hours for the taxi to move 13kms from QC to Makati.
  • I intended to spend my afternoon and the whole of Sunday working with my colleague from India who's arriving and presiding over the workshop from Monday onwards.
  • However, we found out that his PH visa wasn't release on time and he had to wait til Monday afternoon to receive it, which means his arriving not earlier than Tuesday mid-day
  • I had to rebook my flights, immunotherapy, oncologist visit, and pickup of my new car
Feb 17, Sunday
  • Church day and grocery shopping around Makati
  • I wanted to play basketball but couldn't find where I can play pickup, so I spent the day walking and sleeping and working
  • At one point, I got so bored that I went out and had my hair dyed black and cut short.
Feb 18, Monday - Feb 22, Thursday
  • Work, work, and work
  • On Thursday, I checked out from the Hotel and went to the office to work for the day
  • I started feeling pain on my left ankle which I thought was my tendonitis getting inflammed again
  • In the afternoon, I left the office on my way to the airport for my flight back to Sydney
Feb 23, Friday
  • 7:30am arrival at Sydney airport. After clearning customs and waiting for bags, I took a cab to Chatswood
  • 9am arrived at Tesla Delivery Center in Chatswood. So happy to finally see the car after 4 months of wait
  • 11am arrived home to see Lani and drop off the bags, then drove off again to the hospital
  • 11:30 immunotherapy number 7
  • 2pm arrived back home and rested for the day
And that leads us to the adventures back in Sydney, where I suddenly couldn't walk.
