Torn calf muscle

So I played basketball on Thursday, 19th Oct, after work as I normally do every day. But on this day, I played extra hard. Mainly because I was going against one of the best players in Willow where I play. I wanted to win so I hustled a lot both on defence and offence. They guy in fact complimented me on how well I played.

Towards the end of the game with us 1 point away from winning, I hustled on defence and felt something very hard hit my thigh. I assumed someone behind me kicked my calf accidentally, so I brushed it off. But it was painful. I first thought I was hit by a stray golf ball and for a quick second I wondered why there's was one in the basketball park. I played on while feeling the pain, and even got the rebound on that possession, made the assist, and my teammate's shot won us the game. I went home happy thinking it's just a bruise and I'll be ok the next day.

In the middle of the night, I woke up to intense pain. My calf was swollen and I could barely walk. I wasn't sure if I'm allowed to take any meds because of the chemo, so I decided to bring myself to Westmead Hospital's emergency room in the morning. Ultrasound confirmed that I have a partial tear on my gastrocnemius, the big muscle near the back of the knee. I was given crutches to use for the next 2 weeks and told not to play sports for 6 weeks - ouch!
