Bubwit and Baby Rhymes

Tell me please, why are Nursery Rhymes so morbid?

Here's an article on some of the most tragic ones, including Jack and Jill breaking their crowns (heads), Humpty Dumpty falling and not being put together ever again, and the baby rocking on the tree top (why would anyone do that?).

Then there were those MP3 given to us by Donnell. One where the crododile had an aching tooth and eventually ate the dentist, then another with a man being eaten by a boa constrictor. And then there's the story about the overly martyr giving tree. And the "Big O and the Missing Piece" which sounds somewhat perverted.

I mean, they are not even funny at all. And they're definitely not good for children to listen to. But nevertheless, children like them. Even those who aren't born yet.

Our dear Bubwit certainly loves listening to them. Lani would play them on her cellphone, place the phone on her tummy, and very soon Bubwit would be moving around inside, kicking I suppose, as if trying to hit the phone. It's very funny and entertaining to watch. It doesn't fail, especially his current favorite - "Ring Around The Rosie" - which happens to be about the bubonic plauge that killed tens of thousands in the 1600s. He would really move as soon as he hears them.

Oh well, if that's what the baby ordered - as morbid as they may be - then that's what the baby will get.
