Buhay banda - Part 9 (San Pablo City Bands)

Before I go on, let me just tell you about some of the Bands we became friends with and competed against.
  • Karimlan - champion of the first Battle of the Bands we joined. Considered one of the best bands in SPC, their genre is metal and hard rock, a lot of Wolfgang and Metallica covers. Their bassist, Jason, was my eventual classmate in AMA Computer and also became a colleague in my on-the-job training in San Pablo. I think he's in the U.S. now.

  • Delusions - 2nd placer in the first competition, and champion of the 2nd competition (Rack-rackan) we joined. We didn't get to know them personally. But we fought several battles against them. They're on the same genre as Karimlan.

  • Wind Jammers - Nagcarlan's staple band, playing in the one and only bar in town. I became friends with their guitarist in virtue of our church ties (we both played in choirs). He would sometimes drop by to jam. Being a bar band, their covers were mostly pop.

  • Metanioa - a San Pablo band that we met and we're very fond of. Lilo was the guitarist and lead vocals. He's got one of the fastest hands I've seen then, and introduced me to sweep picking, which I still cannot do until now. Tibo was the drummer, a humble tricycle driver in SPC who had great precision and timing. Joey Aclan, their bassist who was cool and humble. And then there was they keyboardist (can't remember the name), who got electrocuted and died while playing with his keyboard's wirings. They all became friends, and in 1997 our bands staged a concert in San Pablo City High, one of our most memorable gigs. This band usually plays old rock, with "Highway Star" being their favorite piece.
Of course there were others, but we hardly knew them.

  1. This may be the longest blog series by a private person in friendster. Management should give you more gifts, like trying to re-group the band and try to am and record!?! Hahaha...

Bro, I forwarded the blog links to Vinny's and some friends... Hope they enjoy the series the way I do...
