Buhay banda - Part 12 (City High concert)

Probably one of my personal favorite band moments was our Concert at the City Highschool of San Pablo City sometime in 1996.

The school wanted a concert to headline their foundation day celebrations. They didn't have budget to get a big-name band, so they looked for local talents to do the show. Our friends, the band Metanioa (see my previous post about them), got the gig.

I guess along the way the band decided that (1) a slot is too much for one band, and (2) they are a little too old for the high school audience that they will be performing for. They needed another group to help them generate interest and energize the young crowd. So, they called us up and gave us the first half of the show.

We came in there not expecting much. It was just another gig, but with more songs that the usual 2 or 3 that we play. I think we prepared about 8. The venue was not big but not small either. They decided to use the indoor gym instead of the bigger outdoor stage becuase it was in the afternoon. There were probably a little more than a thousand high school students watching (i was a freshman college student at the time, bro and the rest at 3rd year juniors).

The fun started when we stepped on stage. We were introduced simply as Full Volume and the young crowd exploded. We started out with our Mangarap Ka rendition (the baksakan is perfect as an intro piece) and followed with our own compositions. The crowd didn't know our songs but they didn't care, they were enjoying our performance. And so were we. In fact, I broke one of my string and changed guitar mid-way into a song.

Now here's the best part. Right after our set, Brad Amet, Toby and I went out of the hall to get some air. As soon as we got out of the door, we were swarmed by the young ladies who became our new fans. They were asking for authographs and pictures and they were hugging us and kissing us! Yes, kissing us! For the next hour I felt like a real rockstar.

Next on: The Full Volume originals.
