VHT Special 6 Head + Cabinet Amplifier

Bought my very first tube amplifier today, a VHT Special 6!

For the more than 15 years that I've played electric guitars, I've never really had the chance to play on all-tube amps. I'm a huge fan of Brian May (Queen) and Slash (Guns n' Roses), so obviously tube was the sound that I craved for. Add to that the fact that I don't enjoy using effect pedals. I like natural distortion, and I like to control that using my guitar's volume control, not pedals. But of course, a tube amp was way out of my budget, so I was stuck a 20w solid state practice amp and some multi-effects to shape my sound.

Well, a new brand come out recently and the reviews were good, so is the price (Sgd 300 for the Head plus matching 12" cabinet). So, I've got one now, and boy it's LOUD!

The VHT Special 6 is a 'small' 6-watt amp. It has a 'low power' selector that cuts it off to 3 watts, but even at that rating, it's still very loud - at least for Lani's hearing (Ethan actually fell asleep in the room while I cranked the amp at full volume).

It's a simplistic amp with just one Tone and one Volume knobs, 2 inputs (Hi and Low), a footswitch for the boost, and nothing else. So, it's as transparent as you can get. No EQ's nor effects to meddle with your guitar's sound. The clean output is very chimey, similar to Fender amps. And the satchurated sound is very punchy with a lot of mids, much like Vox amps. The combination is perfect for me.

I'm definitely enjoying it. But for now, I'm still a newb when it comes to tubes. :D
