A bad word

Ethan is a fond of Youtube. He watches videos all the time, be it on his iPad, our iPhones, or on the computer. He'd watch everything from nursery rhymes, educational videos, sesame street, children's shows, cooking tutorials (he likes cooking), and even Oppa Gangnam-style MTVs.

Once in a while, he gets to videos that are not meant for kids (YouTube does a terrible job of filtering these), so he learns some 'bad words.' We've been quite diligent in keeping tabs on him and reminding him of what good and bad, so he has already gotten to a point now where when he hears a swear or any foul word, he'd immediately stop the video and say "that's a bad video."

Now, of course he only watches English videos. And the bad words that he can identify are all English words - f*ck, s*ck, st*pid, a**hole, etc. It does get funny when Lani and I talk in Tagalog,  and Ethan, not understanding most of our conversation, will just pick words that he can. And of course, he has a knack on picking only bad words.

Yesterday, I cooked longanisa and Lani didn't like the smell so she moved away from me. I asked, "Ba't ka lumayo sakin? Mas lumapit ka sa kusina, mas mabaho dyan."

Ethan then said, "Daddy, you said a bad word"

Not remembering saying anything bad, I uttered "Huh? I didn't say any bad word. I just said 'Bat ka lumayo sakin..."

Ethan quickly interrupted and blurted, "sakin'"

Lani and I looked at each other and rolled off the floor laughing.
