Ethan's finally met the tooth fairy

The past few days Ethan has been complaining of toothache. Really really bad toothache that he sometimes end up crying because of the pain. So I took leave from work yesterday to bring him to the dentist and get some advise.

After driving Mommy to the office in the morning, we went near Carlingford station to see the dentist. Unfortunately, the clinic was fully booked for the day so off we went to Carlingford Court but it was the same. Note to self: don't time doctor/dentist visits on school holidays.

After calling 4 other clinics, I finally got hold of one nearby that had a 4pm slot open. Which much free time to spare, we went to Monkey Mania playground at Bankstown so the kids can play.

At around 3pm, we left the playground and drove to the clinic. Ethan cried the whole 45 minutes because his toothache started acting up again. He said, "bring me to the dentist now. I can't hold it anymore!" As if there's some he has to hold back, like his wee wee or pupu.

We got to the clinic at exactly 4pm and the doctor called us in almost immediately. An x-ray showed that he had a cavity too deep that it's already exposing his nerves. The doctor asked if I was willing to try extraction and I said yes. Poor Ethan, he thought he was just there for consultation but ended up losing a tooth. Surprisingly though, he didn't seem bother. He was just happy to get rid of the toothache.

The doctor explained to Ethan what he was about to do and asked if he's ok with it. Ethan, to my delight, said yes. So he (doctor) started the procedure by rubbing his gums with some honey-like sticky thing that's meant to numb his gums. Then two injections of anesthesia. After that, he used a screwdriver-like instrument to loosen up the tooth, followed by a plier to gently pull it out. Took about 15 minutes from start to end.

Ethan was cool through most of it. Or was at least pretending to be. I knew he was nervous (he was shaking), but he tried his best to suppress that. I am, of course, very very proud.

On our way home he said he wanted to keep the tooth so he can put it under the pillow. The tooth fairy is supposed to take it and replace it with a coin. I replied, "I'm your tooth fairy. Don't bother putting it there. I'll give you your money now."  Yeah, I'm a spoiler.
