2 weeks after surgery...

... and I'm still not well. At least not as I expected to be. No thanks to an infection on my biggest cut which prevented the wound from healing.

We went to the doctor last Monday expecting that the staples will be removed and I'd be back to normal. The staples were indeed removed but it turned out there was so much pus inside that the wound didn't dry up properly. So, I ended up with a 6cm long, 2.5cm wide, and 3cm deep open wound.

My wound re-dressing bag
We were instructed to head to the Westmead (Public) Hospital the next day to have it redressed. The hospital helped stop the bleeding and cleaned the wound, then arranged for a community nurse to visit me everyday at home to redress the wound (all paid for by Medicare! Really, the healthcare system here in Australia is the best!).

So now, I have a really big opening in my belly which hurts a lot and prevents me from doing anything. I can't sit up for too long because it hurts (feels like the wound is stretching more and more), can't stand either coz the wound hurts so I compensate by bending forward and then my back hurts because of that. And I'm told I shouldn't be lying in bed all day coz it'll affect my blood circulation. What now leh?

Anyway, I feel a lot better now with the infection gone. We will be back in hospital on Monday (Nov 3) to get the wound vacuum sealed which will start the healing process. Hopefully, no more set backs after.
