Ethan the Lion!

About a month ago we received a notice from the kid's school's app saying they were holding auditions for a school musical. It was going to be for a reproduction of the Madagascar, a Musical Adventure Junior, which was to run sometime mid-2019. Ethan immediately said he's interested so we were thrilled.

We we spent the entire week preparing Ethan for his audition. The school wanted the kids to sing How Far I'll Go from Moana, and dance Kidz Bop's version of Best Time Ever. I was a very long week. The singing part of easy - Ethan has a natural talent in signing. He can hear the minute variations in tune and he has very good vocal control. But the dancing part, well, let's just say it wasn't easy.

His actual audition was on the 5th of November. He and his friends went to the library at lunchtime were they were asked to dance and sing. After school, he told us he wasn't sure if he was in, but he did say that one of the teachers/judges commented that they didn't know he sang well.

On 7th November, he was handed an envelope that had a music sheet and CD for the song "Steak". He was being asked to audition for
the part of Alex the Lion, one of the 4 lead characters. And so the rest of the week was again spent rehearsing.

The 2nd audition took place in the following week and Ethan said he thought he sang very well. It wasn't a surprise. The song suited Ethan's style perfectly and the words, well, it was practically written for him. It was about a lion that's really hungry, that everything he sees is food to him. Like Ethan, right? Anyway, the audition went well but there weren't any news for a few days.

The following week, 20 Nov, Ethan texted us saying he got the role! He was given an offer sheet that we, the parents, had to sign. And today, 29th of Nov, he was given his Actor's script (book) and a CD containing all the songs he is performing.

We are all very excited. Great job, kuya Ethan!

Erin, of course, wasn't gonna allow herself to be left out. She wanted to be a part of it all so she was in on every rehearsal, every practice, and every mentoring session that we were doing for Ethan. She worked just as hard and at times even harder than him. She knew the role Ethan was preparing for so she set her mind on her own. By the time Ethan received his offer, Erin was already the perfect ensemble member. She knows every oohhhs and ahhhs, every uhuhs and mmms, every dance move. Her timing is perfect and she does it for each and every song in the play. It is unfortunate that casting is only open to students in Years 3-5. She would have been the perfect cast member - a great role player. I just hope she remains interested until her time is due. It's just another 3 years.
