Mama had a stroke

Nerve-racking day today as we brought Mama in to the hospital because of stroke.

Lani was having coffee this morning, as we were preparing to go to work, when she noticed that Mama is slurring as she speak and her face was drooping. Lani asked her a few things to test her consciousness and motors but she seems alright. After a few minutes her face and speech were back to normal. But then within another 15mins, it was back again. We decided to bring her to emergency.

I drove her to Westmead and the doctors checked in on her. After a quick test they dismissed us because she seemed well and the episode had passed. However, after waiting another 15mins it started again and the doctor witnessed it. So they got her into urgent CT scan.

The neuro said they hoped to give her a thinning medication (Actylise) but they are worried that the episode was already past 4 hours. They said it was no longer safe, so instead they do an andiogram.
Now here's the thing. I was handed the "rates" for overseas visitors, ie, those not covered by Medicare benefits. It's $2,298 per day! Serious! Here's the fee table:

The good thing is that I got Mama and Papa visitors health cover, which will pay for hospitalisations. But that means the insurance company will only pay if Mama is hospitalised, ie, admitted. Otherwise, everything is out of pocket. So I'm now in a very weird dilemna of hoping my mom is well, but not well enough to not need hospitalisation.
