Insurance is paying!!!

Such a happy day today! Insurance finally agreed to pay for Mama's hospitalisation costs!

So Mama is still in the hospital, 28 days now since she was admitted. And as I've shared before, that's $2,298 per day that's getting charged to us if insurance doesn't cover.

The initial worry was whether she was going to be admitted or not (cover is only for hospitalisation), but that was quickly settled because she did get admitted. However, a few days after the insurance company informed me that her case was undergoing a PEC check - or Pre-Existing Condition check, because the policy is less than 12 months old. This was understandable because they only joined on their arrival in Australia - Nov 2018 - thought they were also policy holders in the same company in their previous visits since 2015.

We were very sure the stroke is not pre-existing, it was her first ever attack. So we were just waiting for the approval. However, a day after blood thinning medications, Mama noticed blood in her bowels. The doctors did warn us about internal bleeding, a known side-effect of the drug. Sadly though the bleeding went on for days and days. The doctors decided to do a scope and on the 4th of April, through colonoscopy they found 2 tumours in her colon that's causing the blood loss. Mama has colon cancer - just like I did and so her sister Tita Neng who passed away earlier this year because of it. This makes the review more complicated - not because it's a known pre-existing condition (it wasn't - Mama had no symptoms of the cancer prior and bleeding only started after the stroke meds), but because it was now in addition to the original case (stroke). So they are now looking at two conditions.

After many calls and emails between myself, the insurance company, the hospital's finance team, and the surgeons, we finally received a letter from the insurance today stating that they will cover the hospitalisation and all related medical services. God is merciful! We love you Allianz!

Mama's colon resection is scheduled on the 17th.
