It’s Nanay’s turn at Westmead Public

Last year, we had an unforgettable experience with Mama experiencing stroke followed by a cancer diagnosis and surgery which led to insurance nightmares (eventually sorted, so don’t worry). This time, it’s Nanay’s turn to go to the hospital. Thankfully, no insurance drama this time.

On Saturday, Nanay experienced numbness on her right arm. It was severe enough that her arm was literally dangling and flailing. But after an annointment of oil, Nanay felt better that she was able to attend church that night and went on to iron clothes the following morning.

However, on Monday morning, Lani was calling Nanay to breakfast when she noticed Nanay’s drooping face (right side) and slurred speech. Lani quickly called me up for an emergency trip to the hospital. And she got admitted immediately to the Emergency Short Stay Unit of Westmead, which also doubles as their “Healthcare for Older People” unit.

Nanay didn’t have any further attacks, which is promising. But the doctors wanted to keep her there for observations. The best thing is that the health insurance didn’t give us any trouble at all - she was covered all the way.

It’s now Wednesday and Nanay is already getting bored in the hospital. They moved her to the OPERA ward where older patients are confined for review and assessment. Hopefully she’ll be out by tomorrow.

UPDATE Jan 30 - Nanay is back home after 4 days and 3 nights in the hospital. Doctor says MRI confirmed TIA, but she was just given Aspirins. We pray that she's now fully recovered.
