Newcastle 2021

One last hurray before the school year starts. It’s Australia Day holiday today (Tuesday) and we took the opportunity to have a long weekend by taking Monday off work. The Luzons had the same thought, so it quickly escalated into a quick out-of-town getaway.

The Luzons found a lovely accomodation at Executiv e Inn Newscastle so we quickly booked it before the weekend. Too bad the Madulis weren’t free due to work, so they only caught up on Tuesday, the actual holiday, for a day trip.

We left Sydney on Monday morning and arrived at Newscastle at 11am, in time for lunch at Kingfish restaruant. The lunch was sumptous seafood plates, but service took forever. We finished at 2pm and headed to the hotel.

The hotel is lovely. The rooms are big with 2 queen-sized beds each. There were 3 pools that were small but neatly designed.

We had a bit of rest when we arrived then headed for a dip in the pool. At 6pm, we joined the church activities through webex, then headed out to catch the sunset at nobbys beach and Lighthouse. Of course it was too late to see the sun, so we ended up circling the lighthouse and walking on the beach in darkness. Dinner was drive thru KFC and Hungry Jacks.

The following morning, we got up early for a 7am dip in the spa pool. Then got ourselves checked out at 10am before heading for brunch at the Terrace restaurant in the hotel.

After brunch, we visited the Newscastle Museum, then met up with the Madulis at Nobby beach. It was a sweltering hot day but the water was cold and the waves were huge and plenty. Ethan and I enjoyed the waves, while the smaller kids picked snails and startfish in the rock pool.

Around 3pm, we decided to go for late lunch but couldn’t find any shop open, so we ended up at Kingfish again. They are really slow so we ended up eating around 5pm. There wasnt really much time to go anywhere else then, so we started our journey back to Sydney.
