House hunt 2013

Time really flies. It's been one year since we moved into our home at Telopea. I remember us thinking it was just the perfect house for us - fully furnished, not too big but with a good-sized kitchen, easy to clean, internal laundry, extra room for Nanay, etc etc.

But things have changed, faster than we can cope up really, that we are now almost forced to revisit our options. And that's exactly what we've been doing the past 2 weeks. We have started looking for a new home with the following requirements in mind:

  1. Close to Ethan's school.  He is starting Kindergarten on January 2014 and with the experience we had early this year, we decided it's best if school is not more than 100m away. It doesn't help that Nanay now has to fetch Ethan with Erin in tow.

  2. Close to the church. Lani and I have both been entrusted with new offices in the local. Lani is being recommended as the Head Secretary and I, head of the Buklod organization. So the closer we can get to the church, the easier it will be for both of us (and Nanay as well) in fulfilling our duties.

  3. At least 3 bedrooms. The one we're living in now has 2 bedrooms which is now filled with Erin's stuff (cot, drawers, swing) and Ethan's toys. We can barely move without shifting things out of the way. We can really use another room, or another garage, or a bigger, more secure terrace.

  4. Less than $500/wk. Dollar is down, salary is fairly stagnant, and we're six-foot deep in dept because of hospital and medical expenses. Need I say more?

Unfortunately, this combination is not really easy to find. We viewed a villa which we really really loved (Tintern Ave) but it's just a tad too far from both school and church. There's another one that's literally right outside the gates of the school (Manson St) but is just old and unmaintained.

Tomorrow, we're viewing a promising one at Coleman St. And on Saturday, we have a list of about 5 homes to inspect.

For now, we're keeping ourselves busy hunting cheap furniture on Gumtree because... well, we don't have any.
