Lying for brownies

Baking is one of Ethan's favorite things to do. He loves it so much that every time we're at the grocery, he'd take at least a box of baking goodies - be it cakes, brownies, pancakes, cupcakes, or what not. And whenever he'd find the chance, he will ask Lani or I to cook with him.

He's actually a good assistant. He prepares everything to the letter, reads the instructions on the box, prepares all the ingredients in their correct quantities, he helps with opening the packets, pouring into the bowls, and even the mixing. He's also very careful not to get close to the oven. So it's actually a delight to bake with him.

Now, baking is not the only thing he likes to do. He also likes to eat what he bakes - the proverbial "bake his cake and eat it too." And last night was no different.

Right after watching the Voice, Ethan invited Lani to bake brownies. Lani obliged. After about 1hr (takes time to cool), the brownies were ready. Ethan munched a few slices before Lani told him to stop eating because it was time for bed. Ethan obeyed.

While we were lying on the bed Ethan told me that he forgot something outside. I asked what and he said "I left something on my pants outside. I think it was my $2 coin."  Curious that he has money, I let him go. As he was about to step of out the room, he said "I can just go on my own, don't help me Daddy". That was, of course, my cue that he's up to something naughty. I waited a few seconds then followed him out of the room. And there I saw him tip-toeing to the kitchen, reaching for the brownies, grabbing a handful. and putting them all in his mouth - all the while trying to be as quiet as possible.

He was again tip-toeing on his way back to the room, grinning with a happy smile while chewing his brownies when he saw me standing in front of him. At that point we both blurted out laughing so hard that he spewed all the brownies onto the floor. The cheeky little brat lied so he can eat more brownies!
