Ethan Aces Kindie!

We just received Ethan's year-end school report card and it looks like our yet-to-be 6 year-old young man nailed kindergarten like a pro! He has aced pretty much all his subjects and received remarkable commendations on each one of them.

English
"Ethan's achievements in English this semester have been outstanding. Ethan is able to articulate his thoughts clearly and uses appropriate language according to his audience and purpose. He can independently use a range of reading strategies such as self-correcting, predicting and decoding text. Ethan displays the ability to compose a variety of texts using appropriate text structure and language features. He spells high-frequency and common sight words accurately. Ethan demonstrates a flair for writing and is able to respond to and compose a range of texts based on his own experiences. Ethan's handwriting has improved and he would benefit from continued practice. Well done Ethan."
Mathematics
"Ethan's commitment to his work has enabled him to achieve excellent results in Mathematics. Ethan displays competency in numbers and can count, order, read, and write numbers beyond 100. He can successfully solve multiplication and division problems using various mental strategies and concrete materials. Ethan knows how to skip-count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. He can divide objects into halves and use the fraction notation for half. He is able to confidently gather and record data using tally marks. He can successfully read half-hour time. Ethan can select an object from a description of its features. Ethan links mathematical concepts and ideas acquired to solve a problem. Congratulations Ethan!"
Science and Technology
"Ethan practised the science skills of observing, questioning, predicting and communicating by investigating where our food comes from and how it gets to us from farms and factories. He demonstrated an excellent understanding of the journey of products like milk from paddock to plate. Ethan further identifies healthy foods and explains the importance of healthy eating. He understands the actions he must take in order to be fit and healthy. In ICT Ethan has expended his computer skills and can competently open a word document and type a sentence. Ethan can insert a picture and is learning to change the font type and size. Ethan works confidently with computers and often assists his peers."
Human Society and Its Environment
"This semester in HSIE, students explored the immediate environment of their home, school, classroom and local community in the unit "Places We Know". Ethan is able to define and draw places and spaces that are special to him. Ethan is highly competent at identifying, describing and gathering information about familiar natural and built features in the environment. This strong topic knowledge and understand was further reflected in his excellent news presentations. He clearly communicates some of the ways in which he interacts with, and cares for these environments. Great effort Ethan."
Personal Development Health and Physical Education
"In Semester 2, students participated in a gymnastics program with focus on initial movement exploration. Ethan can perform basic movement patterns to show actions of the whole body. He is learning to perform a number of locomotor and non-locomotor skills. These included static balance; where students balance on different body parts, jumping, landings, rotations and locomotions, where students move along a balance beam or low bench. Students were also involved in the "Healthy Harold" Life Education program and in playing a modified game of T-Ball. Ethan is beginning to demonstrate fundamental movement skills while playing with and sharing equipment. Fantastic effort Ethan!"
Creative Arts
"Ethan enjoys Creative Arts lessons and participates with enthusiasm. In Drama, Ethan demonstrated the ability to listen, respond to and act out short stories read aloud. In Music, Ethan displayed the ability to sing, play and move to a range of music. Ethan is able to listen and respond to musical beats by doing simple actions and forms of body percussion. In Visual Art lessons Ethan has created a range of artwork inspired by the theme 'Healthy Eating'. He made simple pictures and other artwork using primary and secondary colours in a 'Still Life' collage based on fruit. Ethan has tried harder to produce neater and more detailed work. Well done Ethan!"
