That was an unexpected surprise!
We didnt't really plan to watch this, unlike all other musicals we've been to where we usually book in advance. This just happened to show up at 1pm in our TodayTix app as a $55/person promo, so Lani and I thought why not?
So I went home early to pick up the kids, and we headed back to the city to meet up with Lani after work. The musical was staged at the State Theatre which is just a block away from our office, and adjacent to QVB where we parked. We arrived a little early so we went and ate at Westfield foodcourt before going to the theatre.
TodayTix only allows 2 tickets each person so Lani and I booked 2 each. When we went to the box office, they were kind enough to combine our bookings and sat us together. We were in row N in the stall, which was fairly close to the stage. It was a great deal at $55 each.
The musical started with a relax but fun party vibe. The cast were interacting with the audience, moving around the stalls, and even talking photos. Then at 7:30pm, they headed to stage and started the actual production number.
The show started somewhat bland, so I was expecting too much. The kids said they thought it was lame too. But then, after the first number the story telling got better, scenes became intense, and stage become more elaborate.
I can say that it's probably one of the best stage productions I have ever seen. Probaby even better than Les Mis. The kids agree too.
